A COMMUNITY OF FAITH,
COMMITTED TO KNOWLEDGE & SERVICE
We believe it takes a village to help our students reach their full potential. We rely on the faith and support of our faculty, staff, and parents to help create a nurturing environment where students can grow, learn, and succeed. We teach our Lions to think critically, value knowledge, rely on faith, and have confidence in their abilities.
WHO WE ARE
St. Mark is a fully accredited, co-ed, K-8, Catholic school located in Huntersville, NC (a suburb of Charlotte). St. Mark is an inclusive, welcoming community for students, and families of all faiths and backgrounds.
MISSION OF DIOCESE OF CHARLOTTE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS:
In communion with our families and parishes, we form students to be virtuous disciples of Jesus Christ. Rooted in Scripture, Tradition, and the defined teachings of the Catholic Church, our students pursue excellence of intellect, heart, and soul with salvation as the ultimate goal.
VISION OF DIOCESE OF CHARLOTTE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS:
To provide an immersive, accessible, and authentically Catholic environment where every student can respond to their vocation to holiness and pursue excellence as fully alive disciples of Christ who transform the world. The clarity of this purpose finds full expression in a robust Catholic culture, holistic educational formation, committed operational vitality, and effective governance and leadership.
VISION OF THE DIOCESE OF CHARLOTTE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS OFFICE:
To advance the mission of the Catholic Church by growing and supporting accessible Catholic education in western North Carolina; accompanying, inspiring, and empowering school leaders to transform our schools into vibrant communities fully alive in Christ.
The Diocese of Charlotte encompasses 92 parishes and 20 schools in the 46 counties of western North Carolina, with a growing Catholic population of more than 530,000 and a student population of over 8,000.
Our Mission
We, the St. Mark community, are committed to developing each child toward their full potential academically, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and socially. We will build on the foundation of our Catholic faith to guide them in their journey as followers of Christ.
Our Goal
We seek to give each student a solid lifelong foundation of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, service, and academic excellence.
Our History
St. Mark opened in August of 2003. The school consisted of classes from Kindergarten through sixth grade. The following year, seventh grade was added and, in 2005, we grew to include eighth grade. The school is now complete with the capability of three classrooms of each grade K-8.
Our Beliefs
- All students can learn.
- We value each student as an individual with unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs.
- Effective learning occurs when students know that they are safe and nurtured.
- Classroom activities and assessments provide opportunities for students to display achievements in a meaningful context.
- Actively engaged students with ownership in the learning process learn best.
- Because students learn in a variety of ways, they should be presented with different learning experiences.
- Respectful interactions between peers and adults help to enhance the whole child.
- Continuous improvement based on cohesive decision-making fosters a dynamic school community.
Our Curriculum
The curriculum is designed by the Diocese of Charlotte and is in compliance with the North Carolina State Department of Public Education. It includes a sequential program in religion, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, music, art, computer, physical education and health, and foreign language. The School has a library/media center program which offers quality reading selections. St. Mark has a school guidance counseling program that provides students opportunities, through classroom instruction, to realize the importance of self-esteem, decision making, positive peer influence, and antisubstance abuse information.
Sacramental Program
Saint Mark Catholic School participates in the parish sacramental program. This program is under the direction of the Parish Director of Religious Education operating out of the Faith Formation Center. While it is the privilege of Saint Mark Catholic School to help prepare the students for First Penance and First Eucharist, all other procedures are under the parish direction. All communications regarding the sacramental program are sent to parents through the Faith Formation Center. Parents are encouraged to assist in the program to help establish parish unity and community.
Accreditation
St. Mark Catholic School is accredited by the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction, the Diocese of Charlotte, as well as by the accrediting body AdvancEd: Cognia. The process of accreditation, reevaluated every five years, serves to maintain excellence in education. In addition to school level and diocesan level accreditation, each of our faculty members maintains licensure with a five year renewal cycle. This renewal is contingent on professional development criteria. |
