Q: What is the maximum class size?
A: Maxiumum class size for Kindergarten is 25. Maximum class size for 1st and 2nd grades is 27. Maximum class size for 3rd through 8th grades is 30.

Q: What are the IOWA tests and when are they taken?
A: The Iowa Tests of Basic Skills, often known simply as the Iowa Tests, are a standardized test administered by theUniversity of Iowa and used across the United States. It tests K–12 students on various subjects, such as mathematics and the language arts.  At St. Mark the test is administered in 3rd-8th grade.  Each test subject is scored with a percentile score, comparing each student to the overall national results, and a grade equivalent, indicating the student’s progress within a hypothetical 15-year academic curriculum. These tests are administered in the fall.

Q: Are the teachers certified?
A: Teachers are certified through the state of North Carolina, and participate in professional development to renew their licenses.

Q: Is St. Mark accredited? 

A: Yes, the school is accredited through AdvancED Education/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  St. Mark completed the accreditation process in 2006 and is currently in the process of Diocesan certification.

      
Q: How often do children go to Mass?
A: There is an All School Mass once a month. In addition, each week a different grade attends Mass at the church.  In addition, each week a different class attends Mass in the school chapel.

Q: Can Parents Volunteer at St. Mark?
A: Of course! We have numerous opportunities for parents to volunteer in our school. Before volunteering, you must take the Protecting God’s Children Workshop. A list of many of our Volunteer Opportunities is available in the PTO section of the website.

Q: How are lunches handled?
A: A hot lunch is available for purchase each day, with one week advance ordering. Lunch times are as follows:

  • 10:34 – 11:19 Kindergarten – 2nd grade
  • 11:21 – 12:06 6th – 8th grades
  • 12:08 – 12:53 3rd – 5th grades

Recess takes place on the field and playground after lunch periods.
