Dear St. Mark Families,

We hope you’ve had a wonderful summer and hope you enjoy these next few weeks before the start of school! The PTO has been preparing for many upcoming programs for the 2016-2017 year including a Kick-off Family Social on Sunday, August 28th from 2-4:30 on the St. Mark Field. It will be a great chance to get together with old friends, as well as give us an opportunity to meet some of our new families! We hope that you can make it!

Please mark your calendars for Open House, Monday, August 22nd, and we ask that you stop by and visit us in the gym. This year PTO dues will remain $30 per family. By joining the PTO you’ll receive a special gift and your children will, also, receive a dress down pass for Spirit Day on September 9th. We will have several auxiliary groups available to provide you with pertinent information for the upcoming year; i.e. Scouts, SMAA (St. Mark Athletic Association), and PTO sponsored tables. We will have tables set up for the various programs and activities that benefit our children. This is where we need your help!!! We’re asking each parent to volunteer 1 hour per semester for the 2016-2017 year. Please stop by the tables and consider volunteering at an event that fits your interests, needs and talents. You, the parents, are an integral part of our success at St. Mark! Our goal is always 100% participation!

Another important part of our school’s success is fundraising. The PTO’s operating budget comes from PTO dues, Painless Fundraisers and the September Fall Fundraising efforts. These funds are used to implement many of the activities, clubs, and events available for our children. The PTO also supports the staff and teachers in many ways financially as well as with providing volunteers throughout the year.

Once again, as voted on by you through the PTO survey, we will combine our Fall Fundraising and LION SHARE efforts in September. This allows you to make a one-time direct donation to cover two causes. Look for more information soon on the “Take one BIG Bite” Fundraising Campaign. Listed below is a brief description of the different fundraising programs that the PTO facilitates.

  1. Painless Fundraisers- i.e., Box Tops, Family Fun Nights, Harris Teeter, Publix, Target
  2. Fall Fundraising-This funds the PTO Operating Budget
  3. LION SHARE – Our annual program targets a specific item each year. Past renovations were made to the outdoor basketball court, a centralized clocking system was put in place throughout the school to use for announcements and other closed circuit programs, the outside field was refurbished and the focus last year was the new school website. Our 2016-2017 LION SHARE program will focus on enhancements to our outdoor and recreational facilities.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to another great year and seeing everyone at Open House on August 22nd. Please refer to our school website for the most up to date information.
